Susan Sarandon Bio
It was 1968. Democratic Convention, and there was a casting request for a film that had many roles for young actors who disrupted the event. Joe (1970) was offered a role in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected in spite of having previously studied acting. His wife Susan got a major role.That character was Susan Compton as the daughter of an ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Next, Joe (Peter Boyle) an obnoxious gangster who works on an assembly line, and also collects guns, meets Susan. Five years later Sarandon plays the role in the movie. Janet is a transvestite who gets involved with Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). Over 15 years after having started her career, Sarandon has finally been actively campaigning for a role that was a hit, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), traveling herself from Rome from Rome to Los Angeles. She said "It was an incredible script... it dispelled a lot of myths and challenged America's definition of success". "I went to the studio together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with some of his sexy assistants before getting back on the plane. Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988), supporting actor was her first lover. He had two sons by 1992. This placed Sarandon in an awkward position. She left her home to take on roles that were truly challenging. This led to four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s and best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980) was her first Academy Award nomination.
