Ronny Chieng

Show on Comedy Central. He also produced and starred in the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student, which debuted on ABC Australia (Australia) in the year
2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an Malaysian Chinese family.
From 1989 to 1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng performed
at the comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 along with Trevor Noah.
A few years later Chieng was asked to take on the role of a correspondent for
The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. He was named one of the 10 most watched
comics in the July issue of Variety. In October 2016, Chieng joined The Daily
Show to discuss a Jesse Watters Fox News segment some believed was racist.
Chieng spoke in expletive-laden terms concerning the segment of the Fox News, a
conservative network. He also visited the city's Chinatown. Watters had mocked
the people living there and conducted respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese
and Cantonese. The viral video garnered attention in Slate and Washington Post.
In his youth, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Although he has been living in
Australia for over 10 years, he still doesn't possess permanent residency or
citizenship in Australia. Chieng made the joke that he was cynophobic during
2018's Daily Show. But, he later stated that he's "100 100% not afraid of
dogs" in an interview.
